- 6 cups cubed sourdough bread
- 2 cups diced cooked ham
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 8 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Butter for greasing the dish
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Layer half the bread, then half the ham, and half the cheese. Repeat layers.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Pour mixture evenly over the layered ingredients.
- Press down lightly to ensure everything is soaked. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Uncover strata and let sit at room temp for 30 mins.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes until golden and center is set.
- Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can swap Swiss cheese with Gruyère for extra richness.
- Add spinach or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
- Use day-old bread for best absorption.
