A fun and delicious mashup of two classic comfort foods, this Pizza Grilled Cheese is melty, cheesy, crispy, and packed with bold pizza flavor. Perfect for kids, busy parents, and anyone who loves a quick, satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 13 minutes
  • Yield: 1 sandwich 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of thick-sliced sourdough or Italian bread
  • 1 tablespoon softened butter
  • 1/3 cup low-moisture mozzarella cheese (shredded or sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon pizza or marinara sauce
  • 46 slices pepperoni (optional)
  • Optional toppings: mushrooms, olives, basil, Italian seasoning
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon provolone or parmesan for added flavor

Instructions

  • Butter one side of each bread slice.
  • Place one slice buttered side down in a skillet over medium-low heat.
  • Add half the mozzarella on the bread.
  • Layer on the sauce, pepperoni, and any extra toppings.
  • Sprinkle on the remaining cheese.
  • Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  • Grill for 3–4 minutes on each side, pressing lightly, until golden and melty.
  • Remove from skillet, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Don’t overload with sauce; 1 tablespoon is perfect.
  • For extra crispiness, add a sprinkle of parmesan to the buttered bread before grilling.
  • Try serving with a side of marinara or ranch for dipping!
