- 2 slices of thick-sliced sourdough or Italian bread
- 1 tablespoon softened butter
- 1/3 cup low-moisture mozzarella cheese (shredded or sliced)
- 1 tablespoon pizza or marinara sauce
- 4–6 slices pepperoni (optional)
- Optional toppings: mushrooms, olives, basil, Italian seasoning
- Optional: 1 tablespoon provolone or parmesan for added flavor
Instructions
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place one slice buttered side down in a skillet over medium-low heat.
- Add half the mozzarella on the bread.
- Layer on the sauce, pepperoni, and any extra toppings.
- Sprinkle on the remaining cheese.
- Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Grill for 3–4 minutes on each side, pressing lightly, until golden and melty.
- Remove from skillet, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
- Don’t overload with sauce; 1 tablespoon is perfect.
- For extra crispiness, add a sprinkle of parmesan to the buttered bread before grilling.
- Try serving with a side of marinara or ranch for dipping!
