- 1 box orange cake mix
- 1 package (3.4 oz) vanilla instant pudding mix
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp orange extract
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping or 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- Optional: additional zest or orange slices for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch pan or two 8-inch round pans.
- In a large bowl, mix cake mix and pudding mix.
- Add eggs, oil, water, orange extract, and zest. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then on medium for 2 minutes.
- Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
- Bake for 28–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely in pans on a wire rack.
- In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese (or mix whipped topping with zest) until smooth.
- Spread frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
- Garnish with extra zest or orange slices if desired.
- Chill for at least 1 hour before serving for best texture.
Notes
- Swap whipped topping for cream cheese if you want a richer flavor.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Add a touch of orange gelatin powder to the frosting for extra zing.
