Flaky, buttery puff pastry hearts filled with sweet strawberries and smooth cream cheese make these danishes the perfect treat.

  • Total Time: 33 minutes
  • Yield: 6 danishes

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup chopped strawberries
  • 1 tbsp sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix chopped strawberries with 1 tbsp sugar. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth.
  4. Unfold puff pastry and cut into heart shapes. Score a smaller heart inside each one and dock the center with a fork.
  5. Spoon a teaspoon of cream cheese filling into the center, followed by strawberries.
  6. Brush edges with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until puffed and golden.
  8. Cool slightly before serving. Optional: drizzle with glaze or dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use all-butter puff pastry for best flavor.
  • Substitute strawberries with raspberries or blueberries for variation.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
